Flames struggle to find consistency vs. Midland

FREMONT, Neb. – It was another night playing against another top team in the country.

College of Saint Mary lost 3-0 to Midland University Wednesday night by scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-17. The Warriors are ranked No. 4 in the NAIA, while CSM is currently ranked No. 12.

It was the third straight contest against teams ranked in the Top 10 in the country. CSM fell to Concordia (No. 6) and University of Jamestown (No. 2) last week.

But CSM Coach Rick Pruett isn't complaining about the competition – he'll take his squad to battle against anyone in the country. Instead, he's focused on his team right now.

"Consistency is our issue," Pruett said. "It's disappointing that we can't do the little things well right now to compete.

"It's always a tough environment at Midland. Add Senior Night on to that and it wasn't a great recipe for success. But we really need to clean up two phases of our game if we're going to have success – blocking and passing."

Kamryn Willman (SR/Grand Island, Neb.) led the Flames with 11 kills, while teammates Lexie Langley (JR/Fremont, Neb.) and Rachel Rosenquist (SO/Dakota Dunes, SD) both had six. Setter Lauren Anderson (JR/Gretna, Neb.) finished with 25 assists and Rachel Cushing (JR/Council Bluffs, Iowa) tallied 14 digs.

"On the bright side, offensively our middles were good and were really aggressive," Pruett said.

The Flames drop to 7-7 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference and 17-7 overall. Midland is now 12-2, 22-3.

CSM returns to action Saturday with a home contest vs. Mount Marty University. Junior varsity starts at 3:30 p.m. and varsity is scheduled for 5 p.m. It will be Senior Day on Saturday.
