OMAHA, Neb. – Dordt University canned 12 treys on the way to an 81-46 victory over College of Saint Mary Thursday night.
The Defenders, ranked No. 3 in the country, shot 37 percent from the floor, 44 percent from long distance and 68 percent from the free-throw line for the Great Plains Athletic Conference win. CSM shot 31 percent, 24 percent and 77 percent respectively.
Dordt leads the GPAC with a 12-1 conference record and an 18-1 overall mark. With the loss, the Flames drop to 2-11 GPAC, 5-14 overall.
The Defenders outscored CSM in all four quarters for the win. Another big factor was the turnover margin as the Flames had 22 miscues and Dordt had nine.
Madelyn Turner (SR/Bennington, Neb.) led the Flames with 14 points. Teammate Kaylin Garza (FR/Belle Fourche, S.D.) scored 10 points and Bailey White (SR/Council Bluffs, Iowa) added seven. Clare Lewandowski (SR/Lincoln, Neb.) had a team-high 11 rebounds and Garza added three blocks.
The Flames return to action Saturday with a 2 p.m. conference tilt at Briar Cliff University.
