Strong serving game lifts CSM past Peru State
OMAHA, Neb. – A strong serving game helped the College of Saint Mary volleyball team defeat Peru State College Wednesday night.
The Flames won the nonconference match in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-10.
"Peru State was passing really well in the first set with the deeper serves so we switched to serving short in the other sets," CSM Coach Rick Pruett said. "That really got them out of system and worked well. Our servers did a great job.
"Then I thought our hitting picked up and we only had one hitting error in the third set."
Lexie Langley, Grace Werner and Kamryn Willman led the Flames with seven kills each. Lauren Anderson tallied 17 assists and teammate Miranda Ring finished with 11. Anderson also had a team-high nine digs and Azaria Green finished with two solo blocks and three block assists.
"I thought Azaria did a great job blocking," Pruett said. "And Kamryn had another outstanding night with a .429 hitting percentage. She just gets the job done every night.
"I was happy with our overall team performance."
The victory gave the Flames their 20th win of the season as they post a 20-5 record. Peru State dropped to 7-18.
The Flames face the No. 1 team in the country in their next match. CSM travels to Concordia University Saturday for a 3 p.m. match. Junior varsity starts at 1:30 p.m.
*In JV play Wednesday, CSM won 25-15, 25-15.
