Balanced attack helps CSM volleyball win another match
YANKTON, S.D. – The College of Saint Mary volleyball team used a balanced attack to notch another victory Wednesday night.
The Flames went on the road and defeated Mount Marty University 3-0 by scores of 25-21, 25-14 and 25-22. The win keeps CSM at a perfect 3-0 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play and 13-0 overall. The Lancers drop to 1-2 GPAC, 6-5 overall.
"It was another good win for the Flames on the road," CSM Coach Rick Pruett said. "We were well balanced offensively, played really good defense and blocked well."
Grace Werner (SO/Omaha, Neb.) paced the Flames with 11 kills. Teammates Rachel Rosenquist (SO/Dakota Dunes, SD) and Kamryn Willman (SR/Grand Island, Neb.) both tallied eight kills and Makenna Freeman (SR/Omaha, Neb.) added seven. Setter Lauren Anderson (JR/Gretna, Neb.) finished with 27 assists. Defensively, Rachel Cushing (JR/Council Bluffs, Iowa) had 15 digs and Krissy Radicia (SO/Elkhorn, Neb.) contributed 10. Rosenquist had one solo block and four block assists.
"Both our middles played well – hitting over .400," Pruett said. "Grace led us with 11 kills."
While the Flames have been cruising right along this season, Coach Pruett says things are about to get a little more difficult for his squad coming up. The Flames were ranked No. 13 in the most recent NAIA Coaches' Poll and return to action Saturday at Concordia University. The Bulldogs earned the No. 8 ranking in today's poll.
"Now we prepare for a tough stretch of five straight matches against Top 20 teams," Pruett said.
