NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. – Another two wins for the Flames!
College of Saint Mary made quick work of its two matches Friday at the CSM/United Sports Academy Labor Day Classic. The Flames remain a perfect 8-0 on the season.
"It was a good first day for us," CSM Coach Rick Pruett said. "It was nice getting some sweeps against some teams that came in with pretty good records."
In the first match, College of Saint Mary cruised past Saint Francis 3-0 with scores of 25-7,25-19 and 25-13.
Grace Werner (SO/Omaha, Neb.) led the Flames with a match-high 10 kills. Teammates Lexie Langley (JR/Fremont, Neb.) and Kamryn Willman (SR/Grand Island, Neb.) both tallied seven kills. Setter Lauren Anderson (JR/Gretna, Neb.) finished with 25 assists and three ace serves, while Langley also had three ace serves. Libero Rachel Cushing (JR/Council Bluffs, Iowa) contributed with 18 digs.
In the second match, the Flames defeated University of Tennessee Southern 3-0 by scores of 25-10, 25-14 and 26-24.
Werner paced CSM again with 10 kills. Makenna Freeman (SR/Omaha, Neb.) belted nine kills, while Rachel Rosenquist (SO/Dakota Dunes, SD) and Willman both tallied eight. Anderson ended the match with 34 assists. Cushing finished with 10 digs and three ace serves.
"Grace is playing phenomenal right now," Pruett said. "It's nice to have that type of firepower."
The Flames return to action Saturday in the tournament. CSM plays Mayville State at 1 p.m. and then plays again right away at 3 p.m. vs. Tabor College.
"We're playing pretty confident volleyball," Pruett said. "Overall, I thought we had a pretty good day. Hopefully we have some opportunities tomorrow to get some other players in."
