Flames cruise past Texas Wesleyan at Bulldog Bash

SEWARD, Neb. – The College of Saint Mary volleyball team remains undefeated after cruising to a 3-0 victory in the first day of the Concordia University Bulldog Bash.

The Flames defeated Texas Wesleyan University 25-9, 25-14 and 25-18 Friday afternoon. CSM is now 5-0 on the season, while Texas Wesleyan suffered its first loss and falls to 3-1.

"We looked good from the first serve to the last," CSM Coach Rick Pruett said. "It was a great team win."

CSM's middle hitters were a highlight Friday.

Kamryn Willman (SR/Grand Island, Neb.) led the Flames with 16 kills, one solo block and four block assists. Teammate Lexie Langley (JR/Fremont, Neb.) tallied 10 kills, while Rachel Rosenquist (SO/Dakota Dunes, SD) had eight and both Grace Werner (SO/Omaha, Neb.) and Makenna Freeman (SR/Omaha, Neb.) finished with six. Lauren Anderson (JR/Gretna, Neb.) had a match-high 41 assists and also added 11 digs.

Rachel Cushing (JR/Council Bluffs, Iowa) paced CSM defensively with 20 digs. Langley tallied 13 and Freeman chipped in with 12.

"Kamryn and Rachel were great in the middle," Pruett said. "Our serve receive was spot on and our offense was clicking because of that. We played great defense and didn't let them get anything going."

The Flames return to the Bulldog Bash Saturday with a 1:30 p.m. contest against McPherson College.
