CSM tennis team runs GPAC win streak to 3

HASTINGS, Neb. – College of Saint Mary notched its third consecutive GPAC tennis victory on Tuesday, powering past Hastings College 6-1.

"The team did great in a nasty wind today,'' CSM Coach Mike Johnson said.

The match was eventually moved indoors with three players still on the courts, due to lightning in the area. The Flames excelled in both environments, improving to 9-2 overall on the season and 3-2 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play.

CSM grabbed the doubles point with a pair of victories. Callista Uchil and Noel Moreno beat Josline Carter and Victoria Harris 6-1 at No. 1. Carolyna Truong and Iyaanah Pardiwalla handled Abby Harveson and Kayleigh Cetak 6-1 at No. 3. Hastings got the win at No. 2, as Lexi Benson and Cara Ansbach nipped Yana Gupta and Abrianna Reynosa, 6-4.

In singles, CSM won five of the six matches.

At No. 1, Uchil downed Carter 6-1, 7-5.

At No. 2, Hastings' Harris edged Moreno 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7).

At No. 3, Pardiwalla got past Ansbach 6-1, 6-3.

At No. 4, Gupta edged Benson 5-7, 6-0, 1-0 (10-6).

At No. 5, Truong beat Harveson 6-1, 6-2.

And at No. 6, Darece Van Auken won by injury default over Cetak.

"Standout play today from Yana, who came back from a tough first set to win decisively in the second set and the tiebreak!'' Johnson said.

The Flames have a big weekend ahead, traveling to Concordia University at 3 p.m. on Friday and hosting Northwestern College at 5 p.m. on Saturday to conclude GPAC regular-season play.

"Things are shaping up for a battle with Concordia and Northwestern this weekend to try and finish in the top half of the GPAC!'' Johnson said.
