Lewandowski plays well in Flames' loss to Jamestown
JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Kirk Walker said his squad just didn't have the depth to compete with University of Jamestown Thursday night.
The Jimmies defeated College of Saint Mary 92-51 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference contest. Jamestown is now 16-5 in the GPAC, 21-6 overall and ranked No. 19 in the country. CSM drops to 2-19, 5-22.
"We just didn't have the depth tonight to play with one of the best teams in the country," Walker said. "We were even more short handed with Kenzi (Hoit) being sick. The initial minutes of the game we competed and then just seemed sluggish and didn't defend it good enough."
Jamestown jumped out to a 21-7 advantage in the first quarter and then outscored CSM 31-14 in the second quarter for a 52-21 lead at the intermission. The Jimmies bested the visitors 31-14 again in the third quarter before the Flames rallied to outscore Jamestown 16-9 in the final frame.
CSM shot 37 percent from the floor, just 19 percent from 3-point range and 67 percent from the free-throw line. The Jimmies were 49 percent, 36 percent and 71 percent, respectively.
Clare Lewandowski (SR/Lincoln, Neb.) led the Flames with 19 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Teammate Madelyn Turner (SR/Bennington, Neb.) added 15 points and Bailey White (SR/Council Bluffs, Iowa) scored six.
"Clare and Maddie both did a great job of being aggressive on offense," Walker said.
The Flames continue their road trip up north with an away game at Mount Marty University on Saturday. The game starts at 2 p.m.
"We have one more chance on Saturday to try and pick up another win," Walker said. "I feel like we'll respond really well."
