Inhelder caps phenomenal CSM career at NAIA National Championships

VANCOUVER, Wash. – It wasn't a day to PR.

Wet and muddy conditions created an extra challenge for runners at the NAIA Women's Cross Country National Championships Friday.

College of Saint Mary senior Chloe Inhelder took 130th place with a time of 23:55.0 in her final race in a Flames uniform.

The 6K course was held at Fort Vancouver National Historic Championship Course.

"This course was a challenge with the amount of mud throughout the field and runners were slipping and falling," Inhelder said. "It wasn't meant to be a day to PR on this course. But for me to be able to improve from last year was absolutely phenomenal. Last year I placed in the top 50 percent and this year I was in the top 39 percent.

"My goal was to keep moving throughout the group of runners and to keep pushing forward. I am very proud of myself today and proud to represent the CSM cross country team. I dedicated today to my team and my Uncle Mike, whose nickname was Speedo. Today they all ran with me and I couldn't be more grateful to be a Flame and to have Coach Derek Fey coach me for the past four seasons."

The Aurora, Colo., runner has had a great career at CSM capped by two trips to the NAIA National Championships. Fey says she has a lot to be proud of with both her performance Friday and her career.

"The word 'consistent' comes to mind when I think of Chloe's career here at CSM," Fey said. "She doesn't have a bad performance – she just doesn't. Today was no different. She picked off 116 runners from the 1K to the finish and she was really moving that last 2K.

"I couldn't be more proud of her career. She's been a phenomenal runner, a fantastic student and one of the best ambassadors for our program. CSM cross country is on the rise and Chloe is a large part of that."
