CSM runners take sixth place at Sunflower Open
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The College of Saint Mary cross country team kicked off its competitive season Saturday at the Sunflower Open.
The 5K race was hosted by Dordt University.
"It was a good team effort to start the year off," CSM Coach Derek Fey said. "There were some NCAA Division II teams and some strong NAIA schools so it was more about working together today."
The Flames placed sixth in team competition with 162 points.
University of Sioux Falls won the meet with 36, Dordt University took second with 38 and Wayne State finished third with 95. In other team scores: Morningside University 96; Northwestern College 118; Mount Marty University 220; Briar Cliff 245.
Khot Juac from Sioux Falls won the race in a time of 17:30.4.
CSM's top finisher was Chloe Inhelder who finished in 20:01.4 for 24th place individually.
Other times for College of Saint Mary runners were: Brooke Wigdahl 20:30.7; Corinne Mead 20:57.6; Mira Fosmer 21:04.0; Kiley Craft 21:19.3; Lorena Ramirez 21:22.8; Jocelyn Farhar 21:30.6; Madeline Krause 21:55.3; Natalie Briggs 22:09.9; Autumn Simons 22:12.2; Peyton Bell 23:35.0; Kaitlyn Thalman 24:06.6; Alivia Austin 24:15.2; Emma Lee 27:46.4.
"We had a solid pack time and I'm looking forward to seeing how we progress," Fey said.
The Flames compete again next at the Woody Greeno Invite in Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday.
