No. 2 Bulldogs power past CSM
SEWARD, Neb. – A frustrating night for College of Saint Mary ended with No. 2 Concordia University rolling past the Flames 25-8, 25-13, 25-16 in Great Plains Athletic Conference volleyball Wednesday at Friedrich Arena.
The Bulldogs (9-1, 2-0) dominated virtually every aspect of the match, leaving CSM Coach Rick Pruett struggling to describe it.
"For a lack of better words, that was an embarrassing performance,'' he said. "We came out all night, from JV to varsity, with no purpose, no energy, nothing.
"We have spent so much time on these two things, and I'm dumbfounded by how we can come out like that with that effort."
CSM (7-5, 0-2) failed to generate a consistent attack, registering 19 kills and 22 errors for a minus-.025 hitting percentage. Concordia, meanwhile, had 44 kills with only nine errors for a .333 kill efficiency.
The Flames did show some fight in the third set, drawing even at 9-all on Caitlin McCormack's kill. But the Bulldogs scored nine of the next 11 to lead 18-11, and went on to cruise to the 70-minute sweep.
"The only positive was that we showed a heartbeat in set three,'' Pruett said.
Azaria Green and Caylin Barnett led CSM with four kills apiece. Digs leaders were McCormack (11), Kennedy Buck (10), Kaitlyn Busby (9) and Elen Pruett (8). Buck and Busby had eight assists apiece.
CSM returns to action Saturday with a 3 p.m. GPAC match at Hastings College.
