Flames find a way to get it done vs. Mount Marty

YANKTON, S.D. – "We found a way to get it done."

College of Saint Mary Volleyball Coach Rick Pruett is pleased to be heading back to Omaha with a victory Saturday afternoon – even if it wasn't pretty. The Flames pulled out a 3-2 win over Mount Marty University in Great Plains Athletic Conference play.

"It's a win," Pruett said. "We had to grind but we found a way to win. I'm proud of how we found a way to get it done."

The Flames won the opening set 25-22, but then lost both the second and third sets by scores of 25-19. CSM rallied to win the fourth set 25-16 before pulling out a close 15-13 victory in the fifth set.

"We struggled from the blocking and defense the first three sets and then picked it up," Pruett said. "Mount Marty played great defense and really made it hard for us at times."

Kamryn Willman led the Flames with 17 kills. Teammate Grace Werner tallied 15 kills, Lexie Langley had 10  and Azaria Green finished with nine. Lauren Anderson had a team-high 37 assists, while Miranda Ring had 10 and Jasa Wiedel added six. Defensively, Rachel Cushing contributed 17 digs and Green had a team-high five blocks.

"Grace and Kamryn led the offense and played well with both hitting over .500," Pruett said. "Grace was certainly the energy and spark on the court. Jasa stepped in and was a spark as well and did a great job in a high-pressure situation down 2-1."

The Flames are now 10-5 in the GPAC and 22-6 overall. Mount Marty falls to 3-12, 10-20.

CSM plays its final regular season contest on Tuesday as the Flames travel to Hastings College. JV starts at 6 p.m. and varsity plays at 7:30 p.m.

*In JV play Saturday, CSM won 25-20 and 28-26.
