Flames use balanced scoring attack to defeat Doane
OMAHA, Neb. – The College of Saint Mary volleyball team used a balanced scoring attack to cruise past Doane University Wednesday night.
The Flames won 3-0 by scores of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-14 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference contest.
Four CSM players led the squad with seven kills each – Lexie Langley, Grace Werner, Kamyrn Willman and Alex Radcliffe. Setters Lauren Anderson and Miranda Ring had 16 and 13 assists, respectively. Defensively, Rachel Cushing led the way with 16 digs, while Anderson and Radcliffe had eight each.
"I think we were efficient tonight," CSM Coach Rick Pruett said. "We picked up our blocking in sets two and three which was something we were focusing on to help out our defense. Our offensive numbers actually weren't great tonight, but give credit to Doane. They were scrappy and picked up some balls that I thought might have been kills.
"There were times we could've been more aggressive and were tipping too much, but we got a good GPAC win at home which is what we need to do this time of year.
The Flames are now 8-3 in the GPAC and 19-4 overall. The Tigers drop to 3-8, 5-16.
CSM returns to action Saturday with a 5 p.m. contest at the University of Jamestown. Junior varsity action starts at 3:3 p.m.
*In JV play Wednesday, Doane defeated CSM 2-0 by scores of 25-22 and 26-24.
