Flames get back on track with win over DWU
OMAHA, Neb. – The College of Saint Mary volleyball team got back on track Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Dakota Wesleyan.
The Flames entered Saturday's match on a two-match losing skid and had a few players out with injuries. But CSM found a way to have some different players step up and get things done against the Tigers.
College of Saint Mary won by scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-23.
Alex Radcliffe led the Flames with 16 kills and nine digs. Grace Werner tallied 13 kills and teammates Azaria Green, Kamryn Willman and Morgan Ramsey all had seven each. Lauren Anderson tossed up 26 assists and Miranda Ring finished with 20. Krissy Radicia had a match-high 21 digs and Ring tallied 10. Willman also chipped in with four block assists.
"When we played Midland we had to do some of the changes on the fly," CSM Coach Rick Pruett said. "Then we had another injury in that match as well. Between then and now we had to evaluate and figure out a way to get offense from both pins.
"Alex coming in and starting her first varsity match for us and then leading the team with 16 kills was huge. She passed well and kept us in system. She really just played an outstanding match. Krissy has stepped in for Rachel (Cushing) and just done a great job the last two matches. And then Grace had 13 kills with no errors today."
Pruett was also happy to get the match over in three sets.
"I wanted to get a 3-0 sweep," he said. "I just think it is a different mindset when you can get a 3-0 sweep against a really good team. It was a good, clean game and fun to play."
The Flames are off until Sept. 29 when they travel to Orange City, Iowa for a 7:30 p.m. showdown at Northwestern College. CSM is now 4-2 in the GPAC and 15-3 overall.
*In JV action Saturday, Dakota Wesleyan defeated CSM 2-0 by scores of 27-25 and 25-22.
