Willman sisters lead CSM over Mount Marty

OMAHA, Neb. – The Willman sisters had a huge night for the College of Saint Mary volleyball team.

The Flames defeated Mount Marty University 3-0 by scores of 27-25, 25-19 and 25-16. CSM is now 3-0 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play and 14-1 overall. Mount Marty drops to 2-1, 9-7.

Kamryn Willman led CSM with 11 kills, while Lauryn Willman and Azaria Green had 10 each. Lexie Langley chipped in with seven.

"Between the Willman sisters they had 21 kills and no hitting errors on 42 swings," CSM Coach Rick Pruett said. "And then they also had six blocks between the two of them. Lauryn was just out there pounding the ball in the third set. It's nice to see the sisters out there doing that."

Lauren Anderson had 23 set assists for the Flames, while teammate Miranda Ring added 19. Rachel Cushing had a match-high 16 digs and Langley finished with nine.

"The last couple of days we've been focusing on fast starts and finishing," Pruett said. "We've gotten into a run of slow starts. We started really fast tonight and were up 11-4 at one point. But Mount Marty battled back to tie it at 11-11. We did a better job of getting fast starts and finishing in the second and third sets.

"Mount Marty is a much-improved team. They are scrappy and they play hard all the time. This is a good win for us."

The Flames now shift their focus to Concordia University. The Bulldogs were ranked No. 2 in the country in this week's poll, while the Flames were ranked No. 9.

"Saturday will be a big one with Concordia featuring two Top 10 teams," Pruett said. "We're going to have to play good volleyball."

Saturday's match is at home at 3 p.m. with junior varsity starting at 1:30 p.m.

*In junior varsity action Wednesday, CSM beat Mount Marty 2-0 by scores of 25-20 and 25-15.
