Caspersen headed back to national championships
OMAHA, Neb. – Claire Caspersen has qualified for nationals – again.
This time the College of Saint Mary student-athlete feels more confident heading into the big meet.
Caspersen will compete in the NAIA Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Championships for the second year in a row in the shot put. She also competed in the NAIA Indoor Championships both years.
"It feels great to qualify again," Caspersen said. "I feel like I am more prepared this year and have more confidence. I am a little nervous, but more excited to compete at such a high-level meet."
Caspersen enters as the No. 11 seed heading into the event. She took 18th last year at the outdoor championships with a throw of 12.85m.
She finished eighth this year in the indoor championships with a throw of 14.04 and was seventh in the indoor championships last year with a throw of 13.47. Both of those indoor championship showing earned her All-American status.
She's looking for that same success next week at the outdoor meet.
"My goal is to become an All-American for the outdoor season," Caspersen said. "I hope I can throw a personal best and end my sophomore season on a good note."
