Inhelder leads Flames at Jim Dutcher Memorial

CRETE, Neb. – Chloe Inhelder (SO/Aurora, Colo.) had a blue-ribbon finish to lead the College of Saint Mary track & field team.

The Flames were participating in the two-day Jim Dutcher Memorial Invitational, hosted by Doane University.

Inhelder won the 5,000m in a time of 19:49.97 to highlight a good weekend for the Flames.

"I'm glad that the team didn't listen to their coach when he said that the conditions were not conducive to good performances," CSM Interim Coach Derek Fey joked. "We had several season bests even in 40-50 mile an hour wind gusts.

"Chloe took the lead in the 5K from the gun and led the entire way. And Grace (Blum) jumped in the front in the 800 to run a season best. We just had really gutsy, competitive performances the past two days."

In the 400, Chantaya Griffin (JR/Carencro, La.) placed seventh in 1:00.55. Autumn Simons (FR/Petersburg, Neb.) led CSM in the 800 in 2:33.94 for seventh place, while Blum stopped the clock in 2:40.13 for 10th. The Flames had five runners in the 1,500 as Emma Peck (SR/Ankeny, Iowa) took eighth in 5:38.43, Jocelyn Farhar (FR/Broomfield, Colo.) was ninth in 5:40.02, Madeline Krause (SO/Omaha, Neb.) placed 13th in 6:01.41, Tennasynn Sebek (FR/Hampton, Neb.) was 16th in 6:21.43 and Sophie Peck (FR/Ankeny, Iowa) finished 17th in 7:01.51. In the steeplechase, Brooke Wigdahl (SO/Omaha, Neb.) was eighth in 15:24.15 and Leah Schmidt (JR/Deshler, Neb.) placed ninth in 15:35.21.

In field events, Chloe Miller (FR/Timnath, Colo.) tied for 10th in the high jump in 4-08.75 (1.44m); Claire Caspersen (FR/Cairo, Neb.) was sixth in the shot put in 41-07.25 (12.68m); Hannah Hite (FR/Brussels, Belgium) placed 25th in the shot put in 27-04 (8.33m), Caspersen took 16th in the discus in 117-03 (35.73), Hite finished 24th in the discus in 89-02 (27.19) and Madalynn Rhodes (FR/Butte, Mont.) placed third in the javelin with 119-00 (36.28).
