YANKTON, S.D. – College of Saint Mary began the 2026 portion of its indoor track season in impressive fashion on Saturday, winning seven events at the Mount Marty Opener.

"I am extremely proud of our entire team,'' CSM Coach Steve Gordon Jr. said. "Coming out of the holiday break, this was supposed to be a rust-buster meet to get us back into competition mode. There weren't lofty expectations – let's just test our fitness and see where we are after the long sting away from campus. In many areas, we were sharper than we've ever been.''

Moving to the event victories, Memphis transfer Gozie Okafor won her first competition as a Flame, taking the triple jump in 11.52 meters (37-9½), setting a program record and earning a national B-cut qualifying mark in the process.

Freshman Imani Skanes was a double winner in the 60 (7.76) and long jump (5.59 meters/18-4¼). Other winners included Natalie Briggs in the 600 (1:56.53), Olivia Elbert in the 800 (2:19.09), Carly Henderson in the 1,000 (3:10.44), Rayna Apley in the high jump (1.61/5-3¼).

In all, the Flames set three program records on the day: Elbert in the 800, Apley in the high jump and the aforementioned Okafor in the triple jump. The Flames also recorded three personal bests in the weight throw, improving their standing in the program top 10.
