Morningside downs CSM in GPAC tennis

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. – Morningside University fought past College of Saint Mary 7-0 on Monday in a Great Plains Athletic Conference tennis dual at the First Serve Tennis Center indoor facility.

"Morningside competed well tonight, and their players showed grit and talent in key moments,'' CSM Coach Mike Johnson said. "That said, I remain proud of how our team handled the adversity, especially in an environment that, frankly, lacked the leadership and sportsmanship we hope to see at the collegiate level. We'll use it as a teaching moment and stay committed to representing our school with integrity, both on and off the court.''

The best match of the day came at No. 2 singles, where Brooke Marshall of Morningside edged Yana Gupta 6-2, 3-6, 11-9.

The rest of the singles results: At No. 1, Line Jensen beat Iyaanah Pardiwalla 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3, Stefany Simplicio downed Carolyna Truong 6-4, 6-0. At No. 4, Kailee Bailey defeated Miranda Swanson 6-1, 6-0. And at No. 5, Lidia Suarez handled Darece Van Auken 6-0, 6-2.

At No. 1 doubles, Jensen and Marshall beat Pardiwalla and Gupta, 6-0. And at No. 2 doubles, Bailey and Simplicio defeated Swanson and Truong, 6-1. The Flames forfeited No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
