CSM tennis plays in Bronco Invite

HASTINGS, Neb. – It was a long day of classes and a late night of matches for the College of Saint Mary tennis players. But CSM Coach Mike Johnson was pleased with what he saw from his student-athletes Friday night at the Bronco Invite.

The tournament, hosted by Hastings College, was played at the Doris Becker Tennis Facility and is a two-day event. Play continues Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

"It was a long day of school and some late night matches for our ladies," Johnson said. "But the team is playing smarter and working on building points and executing."

The invitational format is played by groups – 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 – with three pools based on the players' spots in the lineup.

Carolyna Truong led the Flames with a first-round win by a score of 8-4 over her Doane opponent. She advances to the second round. CSM teammate Iyaanah Pardiwalla lost her first-round match to Doane's No. 2 9-7. Yana Gupta lost 8-3 but Johnson said she "played a smart match."

Miranda Swanson and Darece Van Auken will play their first round matches Saturday morning along with Truong's second round and all consolation rounds.
