Flames fall to George Fox to wrap up trip
HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The College of Saint Mary tennis team concluded play in the PTR Spring Break Fest with a 5-2 loss to George Fox University on Thursday at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center.
The Flames fall to 6-5 and wrap up their trip to the Palmetto State with a 2-1 mark. In addition to their on-court play, the team spent time volunteering with the local division of the Special Olympics while also taking advantage of some needed leisure time.
Renee Acena and Carolyna Truong each won at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively, for CSM.
Acena downed Kalli Wiker 6-3, 6-4 and Truong, despite dropping the first set 6-1 to Arianna Rader battled back to win 7-5, 10-6.
Iyannah Pardiwalla fell 6-3, 6-1 to Riley Bobkiewicz in No. 2 singles and Miranda Swanson fell at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-2 to Cassey Hitch.
Darece Van Auken fell in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to Sophie Denham and Blake McDowall was blanked 6-0, 6-0 by Abigail Bond.
George Fox took victories in No. 2, 4, 5, and 6 singles as well as sweeping the doubles competition to take the point.
Bobkiewicz and Kylee Hull took down Acena and Pardiwalla 8-5 in No. 1 doubles; Wiker and Rader defeated Truong and Swanson 8-3 at No. doubles; and Elizabeth Cook and Shanah Denham topped Van Auken and McDowall 8-2 in No. 3 doubles.
CSM is next scheduled to play on Tuesday, Mar. 26 at 3 p.m. when they host Mount Marty University in a Great Plains Athletic Conference match.
