Flames post second straight win at PTR
HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The College of Saint Mary tennis team secured their second-straight victory by sweeping Western New England University, 7-0, at the PTR Spring Break Tennis Event at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center on Wednesday.
With back-to-back wins now, CSM improves to 6-4 overall while the Golden Bears, losers of seven-straight, slide to 3-11 on the season.
The Flames swept five of six singles matches. Renee Acena, Iyanna Pardiwalla, Carolyna Truong, and Miranda Swanson took home straight-set victories in No. 1-4 singles. Acena won by scores of 6-1, 6-0 and Pardiwalla by matching 6-3 scores while Truong and Swanson won all four of their combined sets by 6-1 margins.
Darece Van Auken took a three-set victory at No. 5 singles. She won the first set 7-5 before a 6-4 setback in the second but responded with a 13-11 win in the decisive third set.
Blake McDowall secured a straight-set victory in No. 6 singles with matching 6-0 wins.
CSM lost just two points in doubles with the duos of Acena-Pardiwalla and Van Auken-McDowall taking 8-1 victories. The tandem of Truong and Swanson swept their doubles match 8-0 over
The Flames wrap up their trip tomorrow with a 9:30 a.m. first serve against George Fox University.
