Brown, Wright finish first day of competition at nationals
COLUMBUS, Ga. – College of Saint Mary swimmers Kylee Brown and Lily Wright competed at the NAIA Women's Swimming & Diving National Championships Thursday morning.
Both raced in one event during the morning prelims and neither qualified for the evening finals.
Brown finished in 22nd place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:18.58. Wright took 49th place in the 50 freestyle in 25.82.
Only the top 16 swimmers from the morning prelims advance to the evening finals.
"Both ladies swam really well," CSM Interim Head Coach Eric Rees said. "Kylee was a bit too aggressive early in the race but still moved up three places and Lily had a slight issue with her turn.
The Flames turn their focus to Friday where Brown will compete in the 200 freestyle and Wright will race in the 100 breaststroke.
"Overall it was a really good first day for us and we are really excited for tomorrow when both ladies have the events they are ranked highest in," Rees said.
