Flames have another great showing at KCAC Championships
ELKHART, Ind. – The College of Saint Mary swim team had another great day at the KCAC Championships Friday.
The Flames are currently in fifth place with 224 team points. The three-day meet is being held at Elkhart Community Center.
"We are currently in fifth place right now and only 35 points out of fourth," CSM Interim Head Coach Eric Rees said. "The ladies swam really well this morning and tonight. So far we have had 10 out of 14 ladies makes finals in their individual events and that is a really good showing."
In the evening finals, Lily Wright led the way for CSM with a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.24.
"That was a really good swim for Lily," Rees said. "She missed her own school record by two one-hundredths of a second. Normally we rest two weeks for this meet, but she only rested one since she already has a national-qualifying time. So this was a really good swim on short rest."
Juliet Balman took 14th in the 400 individual medley in 5:28.76; Hannah Ryan placed 10th in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.65; Kyle Brown took fourth in the 200 freestyle in 1:56.83; Maeve Janssen was 13th in the 200 freestyle in 2:05.20; Naomi Huttenga placed 15th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.01; Abby Hoss was 16th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.05; Mia Gauvin finished eighth in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.97; Jaidyn Vanschoiack placed 14th in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.09.
In relay action, the Flames' foursome of Gauvin, Wright, Brown and Janssen took fourth in the 200 medley in 1:49.64 and the foursome of Addison Miller, Hannah Steinmetz, Gauvin and Brown placed fifth in the 800 freestyle in 8:15.12.
Other swims from prelims were: Huttenga in the 100 butterfly (17th, 1:08.15); Autumn Neale in the 100 butterfly (22nd, 1:25.25); Olivia Poole in the 200 freestyle (22nd, 2:14.70); Skylar Ned in the 200 freestyle (25th, 2:23.64); Hoss in the 100 backstroke (22nd, 1:12.24) and the 200 medley relay team of Vanschoiack, Hoss, Miller and Poole (exhibition, 2:04.23).
