400 medley relay breaks school record to lead CSM at Augie Invite

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The College of Saint Mary swim team got back into competition in a big way Thursday.

The Flames are competing in the three-day Augie Invitational, hosted by Augustana University at Midco Aquatic Center. The meet features 11 schools – mostly NCAA Division 1 or 2 teams. All three days are run with a morning prelims and evening finals format.

College of Saint Mary had just one swimmer qualify individually for the finals and then had three relays compete in the evening session.

Kylee Brown led the Flames with her 500-yard freestyle swim. She advanced to the 'C' finals where she took 25th place with a time of 5:17.48. She was 26th coming out of prelims with a time of 5:20.16.

Teammates Addie Miller, Hannah Steinmetz and Abby Hoss also swam the 500 in the prelims. Miller was 51st in 5:48.27, Steinmetz took 56th in 5:57.42 and Hoss was 59th in 5:59.33.

The Flames had three swimmers in the 200 individual medley. Mia Gauvin placed 42nd in 2:15.41, Hannah Ryan was 56th in 2:30.32 and Juliet Balman finished 63rd in 2:37.95.

CSM had the most swimmers competing in the 50 freestyle. Maeve Janssen led the Flames with her 55th place finish in 25.35. Other times for CSM in the event were: Gauvin 25.58, Lily Wright 25.65, Jaidyn Vanshoiack 26.92, Naomi Huttenga 27.44, Ryan 27.54, Balman 27.90, Skylar Ned 28.32, Olivia Poole 29.98 and Autumn Neale 30.14.

In the 200 freestyle relay the foursome of Janssen, Steinmetz, Vanshoiack and Wright took 20th in a time of 1:43.37 and the foursome of Poole, Ned, Neale and Huttenga was 24th in 1:46.89.

The Flames ended the meet with a school record as Gauvin, Wright, Ryan and Brown placed 21st in the 400 medley relay in a time of 4:07.11.

College of Saint Mary is currently in ninth place in team competition with 12 points. The University of South Dakota leads the pack with 368 points, while South Dakota State University is in second with 250 points.
