CSM swimmers compete in double dual

LIBERTY, Mo. – The College of Saint Mary swim team used a double dual to continue training and face tough competition on Saturday.

The Flames lost 152-52 to William Jewell College and then fell 136-68 to Truman State University. In the third dual, William Jewell slipped past Truman State 102-101.

"Going into this meet we had the expectation of executing races the way we have been in practices," CSM Coach Mykenzie Liston said. "We competed against two talented teams in a short course meter pool, which is something new for us."

Lily Wright led the Flames with two second-place swims. She took second in the 200 individual medley in 2:35.14 and then placed second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.72.

In relay action for the Flames the relay team of Jaidyn Vanschoiack, Wright, Hannah Ryan and Juliet Balman placed fourth in 2:12.49 in the 200 medley relay and the combination of Kylee Brown, Hannah Steinmetz, Maeve Janssen and Mia Gauvin was third in the 200 free relay in 1:57.52.

In other individual swims for the Flames: Abby Hoss was sixth in the 800 free in 10:42.43; Addie Miller was seventh in the 800 free in 10:54.33; Brown took fourth in the 200 free in 2:15.77; Steinmetz was seventh in the 200 free in 2:27.49; Skylar Ned was 10th in the 200 free in 2:47.81; Janssen placed fifth in the 50 free in 29.52; Vanschoiack was eight in the 50 free in 31.11; Olivia Poole finished ninth in the 50 free in 34.49; Autumn Neal was 10th in the 50 free in 37.07; Gauvin placed third in the 200 individual medley in 2:35.30; Ryan was fifth in the 100 butterfly in 1:16.91; Balman took seventh in the 100 butterfly in 1:22.62; Naomi Huttenga placed eighth in the 100 butterfly in 1:23.85; Gauvin was third in the 100 free in 1:04.05; Janssen took sixth in the 100 free in 1:06.68; Poole was seventh in the 100 free in 1:14.75; Ned placed eighth in the 100 free in 1:15.35; Neale was ninth in the 100 free in 1:23.24; Steinmetz finished seventh in the 100 back in 1:13.18; Vanschoiack took eighth in the 100 back in 1:13.18; Balman was 12th in the 100 back in 1:22.39; Brown finished fifth in the 400 free in 4:52.82; Miller was 11th in the 400 free in 5:20.85; Ryan took 12th in the 400 free in 5:29.79; Hoss was sixth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:28.27 and Huttenga placed seventh in the 100 breaststroke in 1:34.80.

"We have been training hard in the weight room and in the pool so we did not focus on times at this meet," Liston said. "Overall, we were exposed to more competition today and challenged our program."

The Flames return to competition Saturday at the Spire Relays.
