PK gives Harris-Stowe the edge over CSM

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A penalty kick in the 68th minute proved to be the difference in the nonconference contest between the College of Saint Mary soccer team and Harris-Stowe State University.

Harris-Stowe won the Saturday morning game 1-0. The game was played at Avila University.

"Unfortunately, we gave up the PK and that was the deciding factor," CSM Coach Jordan Irsik said.

Yasmina Dresen scored the goal for Harris-Stowe on a shot that went to the left of CSM goalkeeper Alivia Schade's shoulder mid-height.

"It was definitely a physical and mental battle today," Irsik said. "We were on the front foot most of the day but it just came down to the penalty kick.

"I'm proud of the ladies. We've been battling through some injuries and illness and we battled hard. I was proud of Jessica Slater for stepping up in the midfield today."

A red card to Harris-Stowe had the Flames playing up about 17 minutes.

The Flames drop to 6-2-4 on the season, while Harris-Stowe improves to 10-1-1.
