Estrada Gomez hat trick leads CSM past Mount Marty

OMAHA, Neb. – Jimena Estrada Gómez had a hat trick to lead the College of Saint Mary soccer team past Mount Marty University Wednesday afternoon.

The Flames blanked Mount Marty 8-0 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference contest.

Estrada Gomez scored three goals and had three assists to lead the Flames.

"I'm glad we took care of business today," CSM Coach Jordan Irsik said. "We called this a 'must win' game. We needed to get the three points today. I'm excited that the ladies stepped up to the challenge.

"Jimena just took over the game. She led us in goals and assists. She had a great day."

Katie Harold scored CSM's first goal at 8:04 with an assist from Estrada Gomez and Abbie Anderson. Then Estrada Gomez scored her first goal at 10:09 with an assist from Anderson.

Kylie Anderson scored at 20:15 with an assist to Marissa Ring and then Libbie Brezenski found the back of the net at 25:07 as Kaylie Ratzlaff was credited with the assist. The Flames made it 5-0 going in to the intermission after Lesli Donis scored at 31:38 with assists from Estrada Gomez and Abbie Anderson.

CSM's three goals in the second half came from Estrada Gomez at 48:25, Ring at 63:28 and then Estrada Gomez at 82:25. All three were unassisted.

Alivia Schade and Madalynn Rhodes combined for the shutout in net for the Flames. Schade had four saves in 80-plus minutes while Rhodes finished the game and didn't have any saves.

"It was a great game and it was exciting to get everyone onto the field," Irsik said.

CSM is now 2-1 in the GPAC and 4-1-2 overall. Mount Marty falls to 0-3, 1-5.

The Flames return to action Saturday at Dakota Wesleyan University for a 3 p.m. start.
