Flames come up empty vs. league-leading Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The College of Saint Mary soccer team came up empty Saturday afternoon vs. league-leading University of Jamestown.

The Jimmies defeated CSM 4-0 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference contest. Jamestown is a perfect 10-0 in GPAC play and is now 11-4-1 overall. The Flames drop to 4-6 GPAC, 7-8-1 overall.

"It was another game of us not capitalizing on our opportunities and then giving up mistakes defensively that other teams will get goals on," CSM Coach Jordan Irsik said. "Jamestown is the top team in our conference for a reason, but we fought hard. We had some great shots and played strong defense for most of the match – but that's not enough to beat these types of teams."

Jamestown's first goal came at 8:34 from Karlie Hintzke, assisted by Ryley Bedard. Teammate Emersen Kimball scored at 39:12, also assisted by Bedard, to put the Jimmies ahead 2-0 at the intermission.

Jamestown added two more goals in the second half when Iliana Ramirez scored at 50:57, assisted by Bedard and Gaby Sarkis got an unassisted goal at 63:39.

The Jimmies outshot CSM 12-5 in the contest. Tea Pence posted four saves in the shutout for Jamestown, while Alivia Schade (SO/Kearney, Neb.) had seven saves for CSM.

Irsik complimented the play of several Flames afterwards.

"Hayley Holden (JR/Omaha, Neb.) and Kaylie Ratzlaff (SR/Papillion, Neb.) played exceptional at the center backs to give us opportunities and I thought Marissa Ring (FR/Neola, Iowa), Jimena Estrada Gomez (FR/Omaha, Neb.) and Sarah Parmer (JR/Plattsmouth, Neb.) had real chances for goals," Irsik said. "Our midfield stepped up to a different style of play and in the game made adjustments."

The Flames return to action Wednesday at Morningside University at 6 p.m.

"It's a very important week for us, so we have to find the fight to win," Irsik said.
