Flames finish fall season with improvement
FREMONT, Neb. – College of Saint Mary finished its fall golf season on a high note Tuesday, improving by 14 strokes from Monday and ending fourth in the seven-team Nebraska Intercollegiate at the Fremont Country Club.
The Flames finished at 347-333—680, behind Wayne State College (622), Doane University (654) and Concordia University (667). After CSM were Hastings College (736), Nebraska Wesleyan University (784) and Southeast Community College (812).
"Although we missed a few scoring opportunities today, we finished strong as a team,'' CSM Coach Keri Rodriguez said. "Overall we had a solid fall season, and I'm proud of the progress we've made. We also gained a clear sense of the areas to focus on, which will set us up well for an even stronger spring season.''
Emily Faubel completed a top-10 finish for the Flames. The senior from Milford, Pa., shot 82-83—165, good for a tie for ninth.
Victoria Farkas placed 16th, shooting 84-86—170. Next was Sofia Chavez, who improved her score by 13 strokes to finish at 92-79—171, in 17th place. Chavez's 79 was tied for the fifth-best score on Tuesday.
"Sofia had a great round,'' Rodriguez said.
Katie Freeman placed 18th with an 89-85—174, while Erika Headlee ended tied for 21st with a 92-91—183.
