Flames 4th, Faubel tied for 7th after first day

FREMONT, Neb. – College of Saint Mary ended day one in fourth place among the seven golf teams in the two-day Nebraska Intercollegiate Monday at the Fremont Country Club.

The Flames shot a 347 and are behind NCAA Division II Wayne State College (313) and fellow Great Plains Athletic Conference schools Doane University (323) and Concordia University (344). After CSM are Hastings College (372), Nebraska Wesleyan University (391) and Southeast Community College (416).

"This course isn't easy – it's all about precision and ball placement,'' CSM Coach Keri Rodriguez said. "Add cold and rainy conditions, and it becomes an entirely different challenge.''

Individually, senior Emily Faubel is tied for seventh after a team-best round of 82, five back of leader Saffire Sayre of Wayne State (77). Faubel carded eight pars in her round.

Victoria Farkas is tied for 12th after an 84. Katie Freeman ended day one tied for 19th with an 89, while Sofia Chavez and Erika Headlee are tied for 21st after both shot 92s.

The teams will shoot 18 more holes on Tuesday.

"I'm expecting our best effort tomorrow,'' Rodriguez said. "Let's see if we can climb the ranks and finish strong.''
