Flames place 6th at GPAC Golf Championships

CAIRO, Neb. – College of Saint Mary placed sixth in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championships Tuesday at Centura Hills Golf Club.

After two days and 54 holes of competition, the Flames finished with a team total of 1,003 strokes, and CSM Coach Keri Rodriguez said she couldn't have asked for much more.

"The goal was sixth place or better, and we achieved that goal,'' she said. "Everyone gave me their best effort and I appreciated it. I'm pleased with our overall finish.''

Here are the final team standings: 1, Doane University 955; 2, Dakota Wesleyan University 958; 3, Morningside University 971; 4, Briar Cliff University 991; 5, Dordt University 996; 6, College of Saint Mary 1,003; 7, Concordia University 1,004; 8, Mount Marty University 1,007; 9, Northwestern College 1,026; 10, Hastings College 1,075; 11, Waldorf University 1,117; 12, Midland University 1,263.

Rodriguez said the team kept it together during the ups and downs of a long tournament.

"I have stressed for a while now that a unified team is a winning team,'' she said. "The team did an excellent job supporting each other, on and off the course, and it made a real impact in our performance this year.''

Individually, freshman Victoria Farkas tied for 17th with an 84-78-85—247. Sophomore Katie Freeman placed 21st with an 87-80-82—249. Sophomore Erika Headlee ended in 31st with an 89-81-86—256. Sophomore Ritzy Dominguez was one shot back in 32nd with a 97-75-85—257. And junior Emily Faubel took 40th with a 91-84-87—262.

Rodriguez said the program's future remains bright.

"Looking ahead, I'm excited to welcome our new recruits this fall, as we set our sights even higher in the GPAC,'' she said.
