Flames tied for 6th after day one in Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. – The College of Saint Mary golf team on Monday ended day one of the two-day Kaitlyn Erickson Doane Invite at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in the middle of pack, tied for sixth in the 14-team field.
The Flames turned in a score of 353, tied for sixth with Northwestern College. Bellevue University led after day one with a score of 332, one shot better than Doane University.
"All in all, I'm pleased with our finish today,'' CSM Coach Keri Rodriguez said. "We should have better playing conditions tomorrow, which I hope gives us an opportunity to improve our standings.''
Individually for CSM, Emily Faubel and Victoria Farkas are tied for 17th after carding 85s on the first day. Erika Headlee is tied for 37th after a 91, Katie Freeman is tied for 41st after a 92, while Anna Moore is tied for 66th after a 101.
Cameron Spellman of Morningside University is the first-day leader after a 76.
"Scores for the entire field were higher today than usual,'' Rodriguez said. "Wilderness Ridge is a target golf course. You need to be accurate with ball placement, which is hard to do in 20 mph winds.''
