Flames tied for 8th after 1st day

LINCOLN, Neb. – College of Saint Mary stands tied for eighth at the halfway point of the 36-hole Concordia Bulldog Spring Invite at the Highlands Golf Course.

In challenging conditions, the Flames shot a score of 352 over the first 18 holes on Tuesday to share eighth with Concordia University.

"We got off to a slow start in these cold and windy conditions,'' CSM Coach Keri Rodriguez said. "By the time we settled in, it was too late to salvage the day.''

Individually for the Flames, Victoria Farkas led the way with an 86, which is 28th. Emily Faubel was next with an 87 (34th), followed by Katie Freeman, 88 (37th); Ritzy Dominguez, 91 (50th) and Anna Moore, 95 (63rd).

"There's a fine line between playing safe and going for it when the weather isn't cooperating,'' Rodriguez said. "We need to attack the pins more tomorrow and not play so timid.''

CSM returns for the final 18 holes on Wednesday.
