Flames close fall season in style with team title

NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. – The College of Saint Mary closed its fall season Saturday with a team title at the Peru State College Fall Invitational, highlighted by Katie Freeman, who earned medalist honors.

Freeman shot an 84 on Saturday for a two-day total of 161, which led six Flames golfers who medaled in the top 10. The College of Saint Mary 'A' team shot a two-day total of 680 for top honors. Barton Community College was second (707), followed by the CSM 'B' team (788), Peru State (795) and Doane (850).

The other Flames in the top 10 were Victoria Farkas (3rd, 81-86—177); Emily Faubel (4th, 83-86—169; Gabby Sinnett (8th, 86-97—183); Erika Headlee (9th, 91-94—185); and Ritzy Dominguez (10th, 95-93—188).

"We are happy to finish our fall competition schedule with a win!'' CSM Coach Keri Rodriguez said. "I'm impressed with how the team handled themselves on the back nine, when the wind gusts exceeded 40 mph. It's hard to score low in those kinds of conditions. For the most part, everyone kept it on the rails.''

Others scores for CSM: Avery Campbell 98-100—198, Anna Moore 99-100—199, Samantha Doughty 97-102—199, Ana Wilson 97-105—202, Samantha Norris 96-106—202, and Alexa Piecko 109-105—214.

Rodriguez said the team deserved its positive results.

"We've worked hard, not only at practices but building a winning culture within the team and it shows,'' she said. "This was a great season full of laughs, great stories and lots of hardware. We've seen what it will take to have a strong finish in the GPAC this spring.''
