CSM golf takes 7th at Mount Marty Fall Invite

YANKTON, S.D. – The College of Saint Mary golf team held on to seventh place at the Mount Marty University Fall Invite Friday.

The Flames shot a 354 for a two-day total of 694. Friday's round was held at Hillcrest Country Club.

"I knew scores would be higher today," CSM Coach Keri Rodriguez said. "Although a beautiful course, Hillcrest is significantly more challenging than Fox Run yesterday. All 13 teams had higher scores today. And with the course being under construction last year, this was the first time most of my team had played this course."

Bellevue University won the tournament with a two-day total of 626. Doane University 'A' took second with 643, while Morningside University placed third with 647. In other scores: Briar Cliff University 675, Mount Marty 677, Dordt University 685, Northwestern 'A' 696, Concordia University 'A' 698, Doane 'B' 723, Hastings College 731, Northwestern 'B' 766 and Concordia 'B' 794.

Sydney Streeter from Doane was the medalist with a 73-78—151.

Victoria Farkas led the Flames with an 81-88—169 for 21st place individually.

Gabby Sinnett shot an 87-86—173 for 30th place individually. Teammate Emily Faubel finished with an 84-91—175, Katie Freeman shot an 88-91—179; Ritzy Dominguez had a 91-89—180

"Gabby had an outstanding round," Rodriguez said. "I was incredibly impressed with her short game."

The Flames are off until Sept. 9 when they host the CSM Matthew Goette Fall Classic at Tiburon Golf Club.

"This is always a good tournament for everyone to get a feel for the competition in the GPAC," Rodriguez said. "We had a glimpse and now it is time to adjust and improve."
