Faubel, Sinnett tie for second at Doane Invite

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Emily Faubel and Gabby Sinnett both tied for second at the Kaitlyn Erickson Doane Invite and the College of Saint Mary tied for third in the team standings.

The Kaitlyn Erickson Doane Invite was scheduled to be played at two difference courses with Monday's first round taking play at the par-71 Wilderness Ridge Country Club and Tuesday's second round being held at Pioneers Golf Club. However, due to inclement the second round was not completed and all results were based on first round scores.

Bellevue's Maria Pinedo won by six strokes lead over the field after shooting 75 (+4). Faubel and Sinnett each shot 10-over (81) on the day and finished among seven players tied for second.

Bellevue won the team title at 39-over (323), 22 strokes ahead of the second place Dakota Wesleyan. Concordia and CSM, each of whom shot 347 (+63) on Monday tied for third with Mount Marty rounding out the top five with a first round team total of 353 (+69).

Coach Keri Rodriguez said, "I'm pretty pleased with the way my team played today. This is a very challenging course that hosted the NAIA National Championship a few years ago."

Faubel played her best golf on the back nine. Shaking off a double bogey on her first hole (No. 11), she shot a 4-over 39 on the back, highlighted by a birdie on No. 14. Sinnet matched her back nine score and birdied No. 7 on the front.

Katie Freeman carded an 18-over 89 on Monday and tied for 17th place overall in the 59-golfer field. Freeman birdied No. 9 as she closed the front nine (42) strong, shooting a tidy 2-over across the final six holes.

Erika Headlee tied for 30th following shooting a 25-over 96 and Anna Moore entered the clubhouse in a tie for 41st at 31-over (102). Headlee turned in a consistent day with a 49 on the front nine and a 47 on the back nine. Moore had a bit of a roller coaster day with five pars and eight double bogey-plus holes.

"I saw a couple birdies and there were even a couple eagle opportunities, but putting is what killed us today. Tomorrow's weather is going to be lousy, so hoping we can improve even in windier and rainy conditions," stated coach Rodriguez, looking ahead.

The Flames next compete at the GPAC National Qualifier on Monday-Tuesday, Apr. 22-23 at the Spencer Golf and Country Club in Spencer, Iowa.
