CSM holds 23-stroke lead after first round
NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. -- The College of Saint Mary golf team holds a 23-stroke lead after the first round of play at the Peru State Spring Invitational.
The Flames have three of the top five individuals and all four scoring golfers are inside the top seven at the tournament which is bing held at the par 71 Table Creek Golf Course.
Following a last place showing earlier this week in Lincoln, head coach Keri Rodriguez was very pleased with her team's performance. "I'm very proud of how the team played today."
CSM shot 332 (+48) as a team and lead second place North Central Missouri College (355) by 23 strokes. The Morningside "B" team (358) and Culver Stockton (368) are in third and fourth, respectively, with The Flames' "B" team (378) rounding out the top five.

Emily Faubel is in third, four strokes back, after she shot 10-over 81. She registered a birdie on four and parred seven other holes on the day.
Ritzy Dominguez (+11) and Gabby Sinnett (+12) are in fourth and fifth place. Dominguez's 82 was highlighted by a birdie on the par four 15th while both golfers totaled eight pars on the day.
"I'm especially happy for Anna Moore who show her collegiate low today. My team is getting better at self-correcting on the course, which is a great sign of independence and maturity," stated coach Rodriguez.
Anna Moore was the Flames' fourth scoring golfer. She fired a 15-over 86 featuring par golf on seven holes, including three-straight from No. 4-6, and finds herself in seventh place.
Erika Headlee rounded out the CSM "A" lineup with a 97 (+26). She is tied for 20th in the 34-golfer field.
Katie Freeman and Avery Campbell headlined CSM's "B" team, shooting 21- and 23-over with Freeman tied for 11th and Campbell tied for 14th. Freeman parred a trio of holes and bogeyed 11 others while Campbell parred five and bogeyed six.
Julissa Garcia, at 24-over, is tied for 17th. She parred three-straight holes from No. 12-14 among her five pars and five bogeys.
Samantha Doughty shot 26-over and is tied with Headlee and two others in 20th. Ana Wilson is tied for 24th place with a first round 27-over.
"We plan on keeping up this momentum tomorrow and throughout the rest of spring." Second round play begins tomorrow with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. This is an earlier start than scheduled, but is a result of an effort to avoid higher wind gusts, and possible rain in the afternoon.
