CSM golfers currently in seventh place at Buena Vista Fall Invite
STORM LAKE, Iowa – College of Saint Mary Golf Coach Keri Rodriguez said her squad struggled on the opening day of the Buena Vista University Fall Invite.
The Flames are currently in seventh place with a team score of 355.
"Our scores today don't reflect the talent on this team," CSM Coach Keri Rodriguez said. "It was a new course for everyone and it is a strategic course. You have to position yourself on each hole to have a good chance at a low score.
"We need to play smarter golf and execute that tomorrow."
Coe College leads the field with a team score of 335. Iowa Central Community College is in second with 343, while Waldorf University sits in third with 345. Other team scores were: Augsburg University 347; Simpson College 351; Buena Vista 351; Concordia University 360; York College 395 and NAICC with 439. Nebraska Wesleyan competed but didn't have enough golfers for a team score.
Megan Tanghe from Coe sits on top of the leaderboard with a 38-37—75.
Ritzy Dominguez posted CSM's best score with a 36-48—84. Teammate Emily Faubel finished with a 46-43—89. Alexa Piecko shot 44-46—90, Gabby Sinnett carded a 42-50—92 and Katie Freeman had 46-49—95.
Competition in the two-day tournament continues Sunday.
