Flames finish seventh at Lila Frommelt Fall Classic
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The College of Saint Mary golf team entered the second day of the Lila Frommelt Fall Classic in seventh place and finished Thursday in the same spot.
The Flames took seventh with a two-day team score of 339-351—690.
Morningside University won the event with 636, while Iowa Western Community College took second with 637 and Briar Cliff University was third with 670. In other team scores: Doane University 677; Dakota Wesleyan University 679; Northwestern College 679; Concordia 696; Morningside 'B' 705; College of Saint Mary 'B' 764 and Briar Cliff 'B' 812.
"It was a battle on the course today and many golfers were disappointed with their scores," CSM Coach Keri Rodriguez said. "However, every one of them held on mentally and did their absolute best – which is all I ask for."
Baylie Pyke from Iowa Western and Sofia Castelan from Morningside tied for medalist honors with 152.
Emily Faubel had CSM's best score with 81-84—165 which tied her for 13th place individually.
Other scores for the Flames were: Gabby Sinnett 79-93—172; Katie Freeman 88-86—174; Ritzy Dominguez 91-88—179; Erika Headlee 91-94—185; Anna Moore 90-99—189; Alexa Piecko 94-96—190; Samantha Doughy 100-93—193; Anna Wilson 95-99—194; Ryah Moreno 95-101—196; Avery Campbell 94-106—200; Julissa Garcia 98-102—200.
"I'm especially proud of senior Sam Doughty, who shot her personal collegiate best of 93 today," Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez said the Flames will try to regroup before playing in the Buena Vista University Fall Invite this weekend.
"I know they can shoot better and so do their family and friends," Rodriguez said. "We all know they will shoot better. It's a process and we're taking the necessary steps to be successful."
