CSM golfers take fourth at Bent Tree Intercollegiate Showcase

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The College of Saint Mary golf team wrapped up competition in the Bent Tree Intercollegiate Showcase Tuesday.

The Flames finished in fourth place after the second day of the tournament hosted by Iowa Western Community College.

CSM shot a 354 Monday and then a 358 Tuesday to finish with a team score of 712.

Iowa Western won the event with 639, Bellevue University took second with 655, Briar Cliff University placed third with 679, Concordia University finished fifth with 772 and Hastings College was sixth with 790. Grand View University didn't have enough golfers to register a team score.

"Given the conditions, I'm pleased with how my team battled," CSM Coach Keri Rodriguez said. "I saw some great swings and our course management was much better today."

Baylie Pike from IWCC and Tylah Saifoloi from Bellevue tied for medalist honors with a 154.

Emily Faubel led the Flames with 86-87—173 and took 11th place individually. Teammate Gabby Sinnett was 15th overall with 89-89—178. Also for CSM, Alexa Piecko shot 92-89—181; Anna Moore had 89-93—182 and Torrance Loudner finished with 90-98—188.

"This was an impressive course – very challenging," Faubel said. "We hoped for lower scores, but I'm happy we kept our heads up and finished to the best of our abilities."

The Flames play again next on Friday and Saturday in the Peru State Spring Invite. That tournament is held at Table Creek Golf Course in Nebraska City, Neb.

"We are working hard to hit our peak at the GPAC National Qualifier in May," Rodriguez said.
