Flames in fourth at Bent Tree Intercollegiate Showcase

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – College of Saint Mary Golf Coach Keri Rodriguez is pleased with her team's performance Monday.

The Flames shot a 354 and are currently in fourth place out of seven teams at the Iowa Western Community College Bent Tree Intercollegiate Showcase.

"The team played much better as a whole today and improved by 16 strokes from our last event," Rodriguez said. "This isn't an easy course. It was the site of the GPAC National Qualifier a few years back – very narrow fairways and super fast and undulating greens. I'm pleased with our standing."

Bellevue University leads the team competition with 325, while IWCC sits in second with 328. Briar Cliff University is currently in third with 339. CSM's 354 has the Flames in fourth place, Concordia University sits in fifth with 386, Hastings College is in sixth with 407 and Grand View University didn't have enough golfers for a team score.

Tylah Saifoloi from Bellevue is currently in the lead individually with a five-over par 77.

Emily Faubel had CSM's best score Monday with an 86 that has her sitting in 11th place.

Also for the Flames: Gabby Sinnett 89; Anna Moore 89; Torrance Loudner 90 and Alexa Piecko 92.

"We knew coming here that very talented teams would be competing," Rodriguez said. "That gives us an opportunity to learn, see how we handle the course and how we recover."

The two-day tournament at Bent Tree Golf Course continues Tuesday.
