Flames bowl well in first Vegas tourney
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The College of Saint Mary bowling team is taking in all the lights and sounds of Las Vegas – both on and off the lanes.
CSM is competing in two different tournaments while in the entertainment capital of the world. The Flames bowled in the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational Thursday and Friday. The tournament is a Tier 1 event and hosts 42 collegiate teams.
The Flames took 35th place in the two-day event with 6,426 total pins. After Thursday's action CSM was sitting in 35th place with 3,931 pins and the Flames held their spot on Friday.
College of Saint Mary rolled games of 765, 702, 820, 814 and 830 on Thursday. The Flames followed that up with a strong day Friday as all three games were over 800 with scores of 815, 855 and 825.
"We bowled very well keeping our overall game average at a 160," CSM Coach Corrinne Johnson said. "I was pleased that we had six out of the eight blocks with 800+ pin count."
Hannah O'Neal had CSM's top individual game on Thursday with a 209 in her fourth game. Alexandria Ford had the team's best game with a 202 in the seventh round. O'Neal finished 84th overall in the individual competition with an 8-game total of 1,380 total pins.
The Flames bowl in the Collegiate Shootout Saturday and Sunday before returning home for the holiday break.
"This has been a great experience for the team to bowl at a large Tier 1 tournament and to do back-to-back tournaments here in Vegas," Johnson said. "It's also been fun sightseeing the Hoover Dam and the Vegas strip on our downtime."
