Flames finish in fifth at MIBC Tourney

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The Flames finished where they started the day.

The College of Saint Mary bowling team entered the second day of the MIBC #2 Tournament in fifth place and held that same spot when everything was said and done Sunday afternoon at the Bowlero.

CSM had a total pinfall of 6,396 on the weekend.

Coe College knocked down a tourney-best 7,023 pins. Waldorf University took second with 6,884 and Iowa Central Community College placed third with 6,838. In other team scores: Wartburg College 6,421; Luther College 6,337; Hawkeye Community College 5,899; Iowa Western Community College 5,840 and Iowa State University 5,722.

The Flames had Baker game scores of 168, 201, 133, 187, 180, 124, 116, 196, 130, 203, 145, 139, 159, 165, 146 and 127.

"We started the day off strong with our highest set, but we couldn't adjust to the lanes with each move," CSM Coach Corrinne Johnson said. "We would have one good game but couldn't keep it consistent for the rest of the set. We went up to fourth, but our last set was not good. Wartburg took advantage of that and we went back down to fifth place.

"Overall, we finished in the middle of the pack and averaged 156 for the weekend."

The Flames are off until Dec. 18-19 when they compete in the Glenn Carlson Invitational in Las Vegas. CSM will compete in back-to-back tournaments while in Vegas.

"We get four weeks to get some practice on the lanes before we head to Las Vegas," Johnson said.
