Flames take 5th place as Soar lands on all-tourney team

WATERLOO,  Iowa – The College of Saint Mary bowling team – led by Jennica Soar – had a great day on the lanes Saturday.

The Flames took fifth place in the Mid-Iowa Bowling Conference III tournament. CSM finished with a pin total of 4,052.

"I'm pleased with how well the ladies worked together on the lanes today," CSM Coach Corrinne Johnson said. "They pumped each other up, they communicated well and they kept positive attitudes all day."

Coe College had the top score for the day with 5,175, followed by Wartburg College (4,792), Iowa Central Community College (4,673), Waldorf University (4,450), Iowa Western Community College (4,046), Hawkeye Community College (3,482), Luther College (3,204) and Iowa State University (3,014).

The teams rolled three individual games and 12 Baker games on Saturday.

Soar led the Flames as she bowled scores of 169, 204 and 222 for a total of 595 to take fifth place individually. Her score also landed her on the all-tournament team.

"Jennica had an exceptional day on the lanes and bowled a 595 series," Johnson siad.

The Flames had team scores of 779, 795 and 770 in the three individual games for 2,344 of their pins. The rest of the pins knocked down came in Baker games with scores of 151, 124, 176, 166, 118, 136, 112, 184, 139, 126, 133 and 143.

Saturday's competition was the third MIBC tournament and the championships will be Sunday.

"Overall, it was a great day of bowling," Johnson said. "We plan on taking the momentum into tomorrow's championship tournament."
