Dakota Wesleyan dominates boards en route to win

MITCHELL, S.D. – Rebounding struggles contributed to College of Saint Mary's 96-41 Great Plains Athletic Conference basketball loss to No. 14 Dakota Wesleyan University on Saturday at the Corn Palace.

DWU outrebounded the Flames 59-18, leading to a 24-0 advantage in second-chance points.

"We battled for the first quarter, but didn't sustain it,'' CSM Coach Natalie Miller said. "We got killed in transition and on the offensive boards. We couldn't box out their 6-4 post or stop her.''

CSM dropped to 3-11 overall and 2-6 in GPAC play, while the Tigers improved to 7-4 and 5-2.

DWU dominated the second quarter, outscoring CSM 29-3 to build a 54-18 halftime lead.

"Offensively, we weren't aggressive enough and started settling for our first opportunity,'' Miller said.

For College of Saint Mary, Haley Debuse and Jai'La Porter led the way with 12 points apiece. Porter grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Madelyn Gaughen added 10 points and four rebounds.

CSM returns to action on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. GPAC home game against Hastings College.
