Flames lose season finale to Mount Marty

OMAHA, Neb. – The College of Saint Mary basketball team battled until the very end.

The Flames lost 87-62 to Mount Marty University Saturday. The Great Plains Athletic Conference contest was the season finale for CSM.

After winning the first game of the season, the Flames went 0-22 in the GPAC and 1-26 overall.

"It's been a long season fighting through adversity with all of our injuries," CSM Coach Kirk Walker said. "But I appreciate this group and how they persevered through it all and keep trying to fight and move forward in spite of the negative things they faced."

Mount Marty took the early lead Saturday with a 25-14 scoring advantage after the first quarter. The Flames outscored the Lancers 20-19 in the second quarter before Mount Marty bested CSM 19-16 in the third quarter and 24-12 in the final frame.

"We got off to another rough start," Walker said. "We were down 11 at the end of the first quarter and then really battled back for two quarters but couldn't sustain any momentum."

The Flames had four players in double figures. Aleigha Jackson led the way with 19 points, Madison Camden scored 16, Tia Murray tossed in 13 and ShyAnne Mayhue added 11.

"We got solid offensive performances out of Camden, ShyAnne, Tia and Aleigha but couldn't match their intensity on the defensive side of the ball," Walker said. "Once again it was rebounding that made the difference as they had eight more offensive boards than us."

Mount Marty outrebounded CSM 53-31 in the game.

*Murray was honored at Saturday's game for going over 1,000 collegiate points this season.

*CSM Dance Team seniors Beth Weatherly and Karly Nothhorn were also recognized for their dedication to the Flames.
