All five CSM starters score in double figures in loss
OMAHA, Neb. – All five College of Saint Mary starters scored in double figures Wednesday night.
Unfortunately, it wasn't enough for the Flames to pull off a victory over Doane University. The Tigers defeated CSM 91-69 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference contest.
Madison Camden led the Flames with a team-high 17 points and a team-high five rebounds. Aleigha Jackson tossed in 11 points, while teammates Chainey Thompson, ShyAnne Mayhue and Tia Murray all scored 10 points. Jackson added five assists.
"We had all five starters in double figures for the first time all year," CSM Coach Kirk Walker said.
The Flames were 37 percent from the floor, 31 percent from 3-point range and 79 percent from the charity stripe. Doane shot 44 percent for the game, 6 percent for treys and 79 percent for the free-thrown line.
The Tigers were ahead 29-13 after the opening quarter and led 52-23 at the intermission. But the Flames outscored Doane 24-22 in the third quarter and then 22-17 in the fourth frame to close the gap.
"We had another tough start to the game but didn't quit and did a good job in the third and fourth quarters," Walker said. "We did a pretty good job of taking care of the ball with only 14 turnovers, but didn't do a good enough job on the boards and didn't keep the ball out of the middle of the floor on their drives."
The Flames drop to 0-21 in the GPAC and 1-25 overall. Doane improves to 10-11, 15-12. College of Saint Mary plays host to Mount Marty University at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Flames' season finale.
"Hopefully we have enough grit and competitiveness to come out and give it everything we have to get a win on Saturday in our last game," Walker said.
