Fast-paced Raiders defeat CSM

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – The Northwestern College basketball team used a fast-paced offense to get a 91-43 victory over College of Saint Mary Wednesday night.

"They were just too fast for us," CSM Coach Kirk Walker said. "They had too many opportunities and were getting layups before we could get back."

The Flames had a good start in the Great Plains Athletic Conference contest and played even with the Raiders until the final two minutes of the first quarter. Northwestern finished that frame on an 8-0 run to lead 21-14 after the opening quarter.

The Raiders outscored CSM 20-13 in the second quarter to lead 41-27 at the intermission. Northwestern then held the Flames to eight points in both the third and fourth quarter to secure the win.

College of Saint Mary shot 28 percent for the night including a 29 percent performance from 3-point range and a 64 percent mark from the free-throw line. Northwestern shot 56 percent from the floor, 25 percent from long distance and 67 percent from the charity stripe.

"They dominated us inside scoring 62 of their points in the paint," Walker said. "It's frustrating for all of us because we're better than we're showing."

Sidney Anderson led the Flames with a double-double. She had 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Tia Murray scored 12 points and Madison Camden tossed in seven.

"Sid had a good game with a double-double," Walker said.

The Flames drop to 0-15 in the GPAC and 1-19 overall record. Northwestern bumps up to 9-6, 13-8. CSM returns to action Saturday with a 2 p.m. home contest against Briar Cliff University.

"I still believe we will put a game together yet and find a way to win a couple down the stretch," Walker said.
