Flames defeated by York 64-47

YORK, Neb. – College of Saint Mary Basketball Coach Kirk Walker said the Flames' opponents Tuesday night played with a stronger sense of urgency.

York University defeated the Flames 64-47 in the nonconference contest.

"We got outworked on the boards and York was just more physical," Walker said. "They played with more of a sense of urgency than we did tonight."

The Panthers outscored CSM in all four quarters and had a 47-33 rebounding advantage. The Flames shot 30 percent from the floor, 33 percent from long distance and 40 percent from the free-throw line. York shot 37 percent from the floor, 31 percent from 3-point range and 60 percent from the charity stripe.

"Right now we're struggling to score and we have to find some players that can step up and are willing scorers," Walker said. "We had too many missed layups and free throws. The coaching staff is going to have to figure out how we're going to adjust to that on Thursday and Friday."

Kenzi Hoit (SR/Omaha, Neb.) led CSM with 10 points. Teammates Allisa Schubert (JR/Council Bluffs, Iowa) and Kylee Kamauoha-Phillips (FR/Honolulu, Hawaii) both scored eight points. Schubert had a team-high seven rebounds and Bailey White (SR/Council Bluffs, Iowa) added five steals.

The Flames are now 2-2 on the season and return to play Saturday at 2 p.m. at home vs. University of Jamestown. It will be the Great Plains Athletic Conference opener for CSM.

"We'll find a way to bounce back and compete much better against Jamestown on Saturday," Walker said.
